How to Edit Your SettingsWatch a video demonstration

The Settings Page allows you to edit your password, service level, extended services settings, email addresses, and billing information.

The Settings Page

Click on the Edit Settings button at the top of the Project Page to get to the Settings Page.

Change Your Password

To change your password, simply enter your new choice for a password into both boxes and click the Submit Change button. We ask you to enter your new password twice so that you do not accidentally enter a typographical error. Good passwords are at least 5 characters in length and contain both letters and numbers in both upper and lower case.

Change Your Service Level or Cancel Your Account

To change your service level or to cancel your account, select the appropriate option (Basic, Extended, or Cancel All Services) from the Drop-Down box, and then click the Submit Change button.
If you downgrade your service from Extended to Basic, this change will take place immediately and you will be billed at the Basic rate at the beginning of the next month. If you upgrade your service from Basic to Extended, this change will take place immediately, and you will be charged a one-time upgrade fee of $10.00 (however, if you are still in your Trial period, this fee will be waived) and you will be billed at the Extended rate at the beginning of the next month. If you cancel your account and later re-activate it, you will be billed a re-activation fee equivalent to one month's fee at your current service level.
Once you have finished editing your Service Level Settings, click the Submit Change button. If you want to undo any immediate changes you have made to your Service Level, click the Reset button.

Extended Services Settings

If you are subscribing to the Extended Service, you can access BuildingDepartment.com on your cell phone at Bdept.com, and you can receive status updates on your permits and inspections via two more email addresses, one of which can be your cell phone. The Extended Services Settings shows you your Wireless Web ID for Bdept.com, and allows you to change your Wireless Web PIN by entering it in the box marked Change Your PIN:. Please only use numbers in your PIN (example: 1234 is a valid pin; 123XY is not).
To set or change the email addresses at which you will receive permit and inspection status updates, simply enter two entire email addresses (you need the @ symbol and .com, .net, .org, .edu or something similar in it (john123@aol is not a valid email address, but john123@aol.com is) in the Extra Email boxes. You may leave either of the Extra Email Address boxes blank, and please do not enter the same email address in both boxes, as you will receive duplicate copies of each email.
If you have purchased your cell phone in the past five years, your cell phone has an email address! If you want to find out this email address so that you can send status updates to your cell phone, click on the link that says Need help figuring out your mobile email address? Click Here! and fill out the form that pops up.
After each Extra Email Address box, there is a dropdown list with the options of HTML, Text, and Mobile. If the email address in the box is a cell phone email address, then this Dropdown should be set to Mobile. If the email address is not a cell phone, and you read the email sent to that address through webmail (Hotmail and Yahoo! Addresses are read through webmail), Outlook Express, AOL, or Netscape, then you should select HTML here, so that you get nicely formatted emails. If you check your email through another program or you simply want to receive messages in Text format, then select Text.
Once you have finished editing your Extended Services Settings, click the Submit Changes button.

General and Billing Settings

To change your billing name and address, simply edit the Full Name, Address1, Address2, City, State, Zip, and Daytime Phone boxes under Billing Information.
Your Email Address listed here is the main email address that BuildingDepartment.com uses for all correspondence with you, including billing invoices, password reset requests, and permit and inspection status changes. Please make sure that it is up-to-date. You may specify whether or not to receive HTML or Text emails to this address (see above under Extended Services Settings for a detailed explanation of how to choose HTML or Text).
To change your credit card information, edit the Credit Card Settings options: Card Type, Card Number, Card Expiration Date, Name on Card, and Card Extra. Please make sure that the Credit Card you are entering has the billing address that is listed above. The Card Extra box may be new to you; this is an security measure that VISA and MasterCard have added to their new credit cards to reduce credit card fraud. If you look at the back of your VISA or MasterCard credit card, in the signature area you will see the last four digits of your credit card printed, along with three more digits after those. Please enter those three digits into the Card Extra space.
Click Submit Changes once you have made all of your required changes.
